SEO Content Audit — titles, meta descriptions & image alt

1 · Products SEO Team

Only indexable products are listed here — the 28 products tagged no_index (free gifts, ad-feed splits, tests) never appear in Google and are grouped in section 7. Good news: every indexable product already has a custom SEO title and meta description. The gap is image alt text, in two clear patterns:

• INT, SG and UK products: every image is missing alt. Alt text was lost when these products were re-created.
• CA, EU, AU, US flagship: the same 7 images missing everywhere — the newest uploads (Amazon-shoot photos) were added without alt across all catalogs.

no_index coverage check

35 active products checked. 28 carry the no_index tag (the theme turns it into a robots noindex on the product page). Every free-gift, ad-feed split and test product is correctly tagged — nothing that should be hidden from Google is leaking.

Resolved (31 Aug): Nanobag Daypack – US is now tagged no_index — the live page serves a robots noindex (verified). Its row moved to section 7. One step left: set metafield seo.hidden = 1 on it (its EU twin nanobag-eu-copy already has this), so the URL also drops out of the products sitemap instead of sitting there as a noindexed entry.

2 · Collections SEO Team

The seven SEO landing collections (Reusable Grocery Bags, EDC, Lightweight Travel, Foldable, Packable Beach, Reusable Shopping, Reusable Tote) are fully done — custom title, description and image alt on each. Use them as the house template.

Resolved — no copywriting needed. The six style collections (Standard, XL, Sling, Pack, Micro, Air) are empty (0 products) and the theme bounces every visitor to the homepage (verified live 31 Aug: each URL serves the theme.liquid gatekeeper redirect). Writing SEO titles or descriptions for them would be wasted work, so they are out of SEO scope.

The one real issue: all six are still published, return HTTP 200 and are listed in the collections sitemap — the redirect is client-side JS, which Google does not treat as a removal, so it keeps being invited to crawl six empty pages. Fix in admin: delete the six empty collections, or set metafield seo.hidden = 1 on each (drops them from the sitemap and adds noindex). The same applies to the other strays currently in the sitemap: compressed, std, nanobag-1, products, sellable-bags, eg-gift-app.

Internal collections (Exclude from Discount, Variant Split, Bundle Builder, Sellable Bags, EG Gift App, etc.) are excluded — operational, not customer-facing.

Blog hygiene is otherwise excellent — nearly every published post has a custom title, meta description and featured-image alt. Remaining fixes:

4 · How to fix each type in the admin

• Product SEO title / meta description — Admin → Products → open the product → scroll to Search engine listing → Edit.
• Product image alt — on the same product page, click an image in the Media gallery → alt text field on the right.
• Collection SEO + image alt — Admin → Products → Collections → open the collection → Search engine listing → Edit; for the banner image, click the image → Edit alt text.
• Blog posts — Admin → Online Store → Blog posts → open the post → Search engine listing; the featured image's alt field is directly under the image.

Separate from store content: six theme code spots render images with no alt attribute (homepage hero video poster, video slideshow thumbnails, comparison table, banner sections) plus press-logo files needing alt in Admin → Content → Files. Handled by dev — listed so the SEO team knows page-level audits will keep flagging those until that release ships.

7 · No-index products — excluded from search, not SEO scope

These 28 active products are tagged no_index on purpose and never appear in Google. No SEO titles or meta descriptions are needed. Image alt counts are shown for reference only — the ad-feed products receive paid traffic and feed crawlers read alt.

Newly tagged (1)

The 31 Aug inconsistency, resolved: Nanobag Daypack – US now carries no_index and serves a live robots noindex. Pending: seo.hidden = 1 metafield to remove it from the products sitemap. Alt list kept for reference — the product still gets paid/direct traffic.

Ad-feed split products (11)

Single-style products for Google Shopping, Meta and TikTok catalogs — cleaner titles, images and prices per style than the all-styles product. Hidden from organic search so they can't compete with the real PDPs.

Free-gift products (14)

Auto-added cart gifts (carabiner, free Standard Black) per market. Hidden template, redirect to home if opened directly. Ignore entirely.

Test products (2) — archive them

Still ACTIVE with a Zipify_Test tag. Correctly no_index, but they belong in Archived. Housekeeping, not SEO.

How to verify

After edits, on any page: open browser DevTools Console and paste:

Admin edits are live immediately (allow a few minutes for cache). Google re-crawls over days–weeks; request indexing for key URLs in Search Console to speed it up.
